DOOM Eternal Getting Official Horde Mode

id Software is working on a Horde mode for DOOM Eternal as a replacement for the now cancelled Invasion Mode.

Executive Producer Marty Stratton confirmed today that the Invasion Mode (which would have added the option to invade other people’s campaigns, much like the Souls games’ Red Phantoms mechanic) has been cancelled due to complications that arose from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Horde Mode that will replace it is a completely single player experience, much like the unofficial mod we shared last year.

If you are a PvP DOOM fan, however, id still has something for you in the works, as Stratton confirmed that the team is working on a refresh of BATTLEMODE, intended to make this portion of the game more competitive. We’ll probably get more information about that at QuakeCon, in August.
