Gears of War 4 won’t support HDR on PC at launch

With the arrival of Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Xbox One S, both major console hardware manufacturers have announced that they will support HDR for upcoming games. One of the titles that has been confirmed as HDR compliant on Xbox One S is the upcoming Gears of War 4. Sadly, PC users won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of HDR at launch, even if they are running the game on an HDR compliant TV set.

NeoGaf user Coalition-PezRadar, who is a Director of Community working for The Coalition (developers of Gears of War 4 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition) confirmed the news in a NeoGaf forum post when users started wondering about the possibility of an HDR-less Windows 10 version.

Gears 4 has HDR on Xbox One S. It does not support it on PC. PC just started incorporating HDR support on cards recently and many monitors don’t have the functionality.

The PC version does support full 4K, Ultrawide, etc.

However, not all hope is lost, as PezRadar says that the studio may incorporate HDR functionality post launch if there’s enough demand for it.

I agree some PC users connect into HDR tvs but as of now we do not have support for it. We may incorporate it in a later update though if demand grows.
