Triple-I Games, a studio composed of BioWare, ArenaNet and Sucker Punch veterans, revealed today that they are working on Hindsight 20/20, an action-adventure title with important decisions at every corner, due for release on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2020.
According to the teaser trailer we shared above, players will be able to play Hindsight 20/20 lethally or non-lethally, with people reacting to our choices in many ways. For instance, we can see that soldiers who know our character is going into battle with the goal of outright killing them will recognize this, and probably fight erratically as their life is on the line and there is no possibility of surrender. Going down that path will also change the world around us, with normally peaceful civilians going on rampages and an overall somber and violent atmosphere taking over.
On the other hand, if the player chooses to be merciful, swapping the sword for what looks like a stun baton, enemies are more likely to fight a more violent and risky battle, as they know they will survive the fight, whatever the outcome. We can see former enemies changing their ways, and a civilian population that respects us instead of fearing for their lives and forming violent mobs.
The trailer also promises dialogue-based choices and multiple endings that can be achieved depending on our actions during the adventure.
Of course that there are different rewards for going down each path, with the lethal approach unlocking bloody combos and flashy moves that can be used to cut down even more opponents, while the opposite direction will grant us special spells that can incapacitate opponents and other useful options associated with being merciful.
