We all love a new game from our favorite franchise. New releases like Far Cry 6 have everyone rushing to fire up their gaming PC. But what about our remastered favorites? Over the last two years, many classics have been upgraded and re-released to the delight of many. Here are just some of the best remastered PC games of all time.
Diablo 2 Resurrected
Diablo 2 Resurrected is a remastered version of Diablo 2, first released in 2000 by gaming company Blizzard Entertainment. A dark, fantasy-based action role playing game, Diablo 2 gained a cult following, with many also enjoying the Lord of Destruction expansion pack. When it was first released it gained a spot in the world record books for the speed at which it sold. Diablo 2 resurrected changes none of the gameplay that people know and love, but instead upgrades many of the 2D visuals to 3D. Along with the exciting new graphics, are the chance to purchase many of the diablo 2 resurrected items that users know and love from the original gameplay.
Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Age of Empires 2 was inarguably the most popular version of the successful historical strategy game. The original Age of Empires 2 gave the player the opportunity to build an empire, foster relationships with allies, and go into battle with enemies. The aim is to conquer land and seek victory over your foes. The remastery was first undertaken in 2013, but on the twentieth anniversary of the popular game, it has been re-released in a polished and upgraded form for modern gamers, complete with ultra-HD 4K, new campaigns and civilizations to keep you occupied.
Resident Evil HD Remaster
Resident Evil was first released in 1996, itself a remake of the producers first game, called Sweet Home. The 1996 game spawned a successful series of films, and subsequent video games. The original game was remastered into the very first Resident Evil Remake, created in 2002 to coincide with the release of the first films. The game is still incredibly popular, which might explain why it’s been remade and remastered at least three times. This version promises HD graphics, surround sound, and updated controls to make the gameplay more suitable for a modern audience.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Crash Bandicoot has been a huge hit with the gaming world, spurring the creation of the original three games in only three years – from 2016 to 2018. This remastery is a faithful, level by level remake of the original games, including all the original secret levels, but with better quality graphics and controls. What makes this bundle one of the best remastered games, is that it includes all three original games for a reasonable price and an exceptionally high quality.
Conclusion
As you can see from the PC games in this list, these are not first-generation remasteries but second or third iterations of the original games. Many of these are entering their twentieth or even twenty-fifth year of success, with remakes like Age of Empires II released as part of its twentieth anniversary series. Improved graphics and controls are some of the biggest benefits to these highly polished upgrades of games we already know and love.
